UmbrELLA of Hope
Fighting for brighter days for children with brain tumors.
In loving memory of Ella Hope Hauschildt – forever 7
“I am not a quitter!” said Ella while trick or treating 22 days before she went to heaven. Because of her, and the thousands of other families affected by brain tumors, we are not “quitters” and our fight will continue on. A cure can be found and that Cure Starts NOW!
Our daughter Ella Hope Hauschildt was a 7 year old girl who succumbed to a DIPG brain tumor on November 21, 2008 after a courageous 11 ½ month battle with this disease. Our lives were forever changed when Ella was diagnosed on December 7, 2007 after complaining of having double vision. The shear shock and utter disbelief that this was really happening was unbelievable. We never knew that such a deadly and unforgiving brain tumor existed until we were thrust into this DIPG “world”.
Initial treatment consisted of radiation treatments and at the completion of those treatments we were left without options, except to enjoy each and every minute until the tumor returned. Hours of extensive research and dead ends resulted in taking Ella to Arizona for an alternative treatment. Ella’s response to this treatment was positive but the fact remained that, as a family, we were left to research and hopefully find a cure. Unfortunately time ran out for Ella and a cure was not found.
All that we went through and all that we experienced is why our fight did not end on the day Ella went to heaven; it is why we joined The Cure Starts Now and why we will not quit fighting for brighter days for children with brain tumors. We do this in memory of Ella Hope and in honor of the families who are yet to be impacted by brain tumors.
