In Honour of Amy Pedersen

The Australian branch of CSN is done in honour of Amy Pedersen from Australia who was born out of true love. She was a chubby, bald, forever cheeky baby. Her little eyes always were evaluating, looking beneath the surface of what you were saying to her. Amy left this world in March 2009, 16 months after diagnosis, aged only 9. Most kids don`t survive that long. Words cannot describe the utter resilience and strength of character our girl had. In honour of Amy, her family has started a CSN branch in Australia and is proudly our first international chapter. They are certain that building support in Australia and raising funds will help kids in Australia and worldwide fight brain cancer.

The Cure Starts Now Incorporated is the Australian arm of a movement gaining massive recognition both here and overseas. Empowered after witnessing the depth of human suffering, our organisation was established by parents and friends associated with arguably the worst of all cancers - Paediatric Brain Tumours. Medical journals have described one form, Brain Stem Glioma, as the "Deadliest Cancer Known to Man". The treatment for these tumours has hardly progressed since the 1970s! This sad fact is being addressed by the battle-hardened parents and friends of The Cure Starts Now. We strive for a "homerun" cure for all cancers through our work.  Families encountering pediatric brain tumours all over this country are subjecting their loved ones to hideous treatments that do not offer a cure, as we speak. The aftermath painfully endures. Well, our voices must now be heard. Enough is enough.

Successful awareness has increased funding in many cancer areas, but success did not start by pure luck.  Researchers have been unable to find adequate treatments and doctors presently adopt a "hit or miss" attitude with chemotherapy or radiation. There are NO specific trials happening in Australia at present, and only 250 trials have ever been undertaken in the desperate search for treatment solutionswith no real success.   We aim to address this pitiful scenario and are already making real inroads. The Cure Starts Now Inc. will continue to act as a conduit between researchers, doctors and patients.  CSN is raising funds to encourage researchers to initiate and expand on the present, inadequate, treatment regimen.  Recently, we emotionally supported an interstate couple as they endured the death of their beloved child. Their bravery in turn granted Australia its first entire Brain Stem Glioma via autopsy to research. Although not recognised as front page news, this is a truely monumental event.

There is no similar organisation with such internal experience as ours. Comparisons to other cancers or even brain tumour charities is like comparing Mars to Earth - similar, but ridiculously far away. Ask anyone familiar with oncology about paediatric Brain Stem Glioma and you will obtain a look filled with pity.  The resolve of our organisation should not be underestimated.

The Cure Starts Now Australia has a number of serious fundraising events planned for upcoming months. We aim to be a cancer, to the cancer.
